Charles Power Grant
Charles Power Grant for
Archival Research
The Charles Power Grant for Archival Research aims to encourage and support archival research on Esperanto and interlinguistics, whether in special collections on these topics or in more general collections. The grant is administered and guaranteed by our partner organisation Esperantic Studies Foundation (ESF). The grant is awarded competitively by the Board of CED, following advice from a suitably qualified committee for the review of applications. The initial annual grant amount is 3000 USD.
Guidelines and criteria for application
There are no restrictions on nationality for applying to the Charles Power Grant. Proposals will be assessed according to their importance, originality, the candidate’s preparation for carrying out the research and their ability to make a significant academic or popular contribution to the field.
Requirements for grant recipients
Up to 80% of the full grant amount will be transferred to the recipient in a single payment. The remaining portion will be paid following receipt of a 2-page report on the use of the funds, within one year of the award. Recipients are encouraged to keep CED and ESF informed about the progress of their research, and are requested to send a photograph and brief biography of the recipient and their work for posting on CED’s social media profiles.
CED may also request other deliverables depending on the specifics of the funded project. Receiving a grant from CED implies acceptance of these conditions.
Candidates must submit a written proposal, in English or Esperanto, containing:
– A description of the research topic and explanation of its importance for the field of Esperanto studies and/or interlinguistics (maximum 2 pages);
– Identification of the archive(s) or collection(s) where the research will take place, with an explanation of the choice of these locations (maximum 1 page);
– A timeline and budget for the proposed research visit, to take place within one year of the application date; or, if it concerns research in a digital archive or collection, a description of the planned methodology (maximum 1 page);
– A plan for the writing (or other preparation) and dissemination of the research results (maximum 1 page);
– A curriculum vitae (CV) of the candidate.
To apply, send the proposal with the above information to the email address ced@interlingvistiko.net, by or before 30 September. The selection of a recipient by CED will be communicated to the Director of ESF on 31 October of the application year.
